3-Way Solenoid Valves

The 231Y series is available in 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch female NPT sizes, with AC and DC coil options for automated control, venting, and flow switching duties. As a result, it fits compact systems where buyers need small-port switching, low-pressure operation, and straightforward electrical integration.

3-Way Solenoid Valves provide flow switching and diversion for liquids and gases in compact control systems. The 231Y Series is a brass body, 3-way direct-acting, normally closed valve designed for low differential pressure operation in small-port fluid routing applications.

Pressure, Temperature, and Media Fit

The 231Y Series is designed for operation under low differential pressure conditions and does not require a minimum pressure to operate. However, the spec sheet notes that gravity-fed applications may be a poor fit because the valve uses a small 1.5 mm orifice.

Compatible media guidance in the sheet includes water, air, and other low viscosity fluids. Operating pressure is listed from 0 to 115 psi, while the operating temperature range is 25 to 195°F. Therefore, review final media compatibility before selection.

Dimensions and Size Range

The 231Y Series uses a compact body for tighter installations. Specifically, both 1/8 inch and 1/4 inch versions share the same nominal dimensional envelope, which can simplify panel, skid, or compact equipment layouts.

Pipe Size Overall Height (H) Port to Port Length (L) Overall Width (W) Weight
1/8 inch 3.70 in 1.68 in 1.12 in 0.77 lb
1/4 inch 3.70 in 1.68 in 1.12 in 0.77 lb

Flow Function

Use this valve for 3-way control when you need to switch or divert fluid flow between ports. The flow diagram in the spec sheet shows two operating states:

  • Valve de-energized: exhaust port open, inlet port closed, outlet port open
  • Valve energized: exhaust port closed, inlet port open, outlet port open

Design and Performance

  • 3-way direct-acting design for switching and diversion
  • No minimum pressure requirement
  • Compact body design for tighter spaces
  • Brass body with stainless steel internal components
  • NBR seal material
  • Vertical or horizontal mounting
  • Base thread allows mounting with an M5 screw
  • Suitable for continuous energization within rated limits
  • Pre-filter recommended to help protect internal sealing surfaces and components

Typical Uses

Application / System Typical Use
